Josef Neu, MD is a professor in the Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics at the H. Hillis Miller Health Center at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. In addition to being a professor of pediatrics, he is the director of the Neonatology Fellowship Training Program. He is the author of Gastroenterology and Nutrition: Neonatology Questions and Controversies, 2nd Edition.

Receiving his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, Madison in 1975, Dr. Neu then performed a residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, and a fellowship at Stanford University.

Dr. Neu is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics with sub-specializations in neonatology and pediatric critical care medicine. His research interests include developmental gastroenterology, the biochemical nutrition of the neonate, and the barrier function of the GI tract. His work and that of his colleagues spans from evaluation of basic mechanisms of nutrients in cell cultures, to studies in animal models, to translation of these to and from studies in human infants.

Dr. Neu received the Young Investigator of the Year Award from the Midwest and Great Lakes Neonatology Society during 1981-1984. He has been listed in Best Doctors in America every year since the late 1980s and is the author of many original articles and reviews in the field.
