Linda S. Costanzo, PhD is a physiology professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, where she has been a member of the faculty since 1980. For many years, she was course director for M1 physiology and M2 board reviews and Assistant Dean for Medical Education. She earned her doctoral degree in pharmacology from The State University of New York and completed her postdoctoral training in physiology at the Weill Cornell Medical College.
A renowned physiology instructor, Dr. Costanzo has received 65 teaching awards over the last 32 years. She received the highest teaching awards from both the medical school and the university. In addition, she was the first recipient of the American Physiological Society’s Teacher of the Year honor in 1993 and the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teaching Award, which recognizes the most gifted medical educators in the country, in 2004. Dr. Costanzo is the author of Physiology, a best-selling Elsevier textbook, currently in its 5th edition.
