Lorraine Sdrales, MD is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. She is a staff anesthesiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and the lead author of Miller’s Anesthesia Review, 2nd Edition, the only review source based on the two globally respected anesthesiology references by Dr. Ronald D. Miller.
Before joining the staff of Cedars-Sinai in 2000, Dr. Sdrales completed her medical degree at the University of California, San Diego, her internship at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, and her residency (chief resident in her final year) at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Sdrales describes her profession as part science and part art. The art of anesthesia requires intuition, experience and feeling. No two patients are ever alike. It is this personal, creative aspect of her job that helps her enjoy going to work every day. Dr. Sdrales says, “In anesthesia, we are privileged to be part of a stressful, remarkable time in someone’s life. The capacity to help someone through that is truly a gift, a blessing.”
