Marek Dominiczak, MB, PhD, MRCPath is Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Consultant Biochemist in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and Director of the Medical Humanities Unit at the University of Glasgow. He is also a docent in Laboratory Medicine in the University of Turku, Finland and a consultant biochemist in the Department of Pathological Biochemistry at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow. Dr. Dominiczak is the author of Baynes and Dominiczak’s Medical Biochemistry Flash Cards and Flesh and Bones of Metabolism, as well as a co-author of Medical Biochemistry, 3rd Edition.
Dr. Dominiczak’s clinical interests include cardiovascular prevention and parenteral nutrition. He has been extensively involved in editorial work and medical publishing, and served as an editor of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine Journal. He has authored over 100 papers on cardiovascular prevention, diabetes mellitus, and medicine and the arts. Dr. Dominiczak has also coordinated European programs of academic renewal in Poland and in Estonia, and is a member of the Scottish Hellenic Society, the Association of Clinical Biochemists, the Association for Medical Humanities, the Scottish Cardiac Society, and the Royal Medico-Chirurgical Society of Glasgow.
In 2001, Dr. Dominiczak founded ArtScience Laboratory, a virtual laboratory that brings together medicine, science, and the arts. In 2003, it evolved into the NHS-based Glasgow Medical Humanities Unit. His personal interests include photography, drawing (works exhibited with Bearsden Art Club, 2008-09), and art history.
