Matthew A. Mauro, MD is the Ernest H. Wood Distinguished Professor of Radiology and Surgery, Vascular Interventional Radiology and Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and UNC Hospitals. He is also a clinical physician in the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care.  He is a co-author of Image-Guided Interventions and High-Yield Imaging: Interventional.

After receiving his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, Dr. Mauro did his postgraduate work in vascular/interventional and abdominal radiology at Washington University in St. Louis and in diagnostic and vascular radiology at the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine.

Dr. Mauro’s special interests include interventional oncology, uterine artery embolization, the management of vascular malformations, angioplasty and stenting, biliary drainage procedures, embolization and stent grafts. He also supervises the resident rotation in vascular/interventional radiology; his involvement with the residency program includes lectures and one-on-one contact with the residents. Dr. Mauro is a member and fellow of numerous radiological societies and has published extensively in various refereed journals.

Dr. Mauro has served as president of the Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology; chairman of the Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology Research & Education Foundation; chairman of the National Fibroid Registry; chairman of the Scientific Program Committee, Vascular and Interventional Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society; and has served on the ACR Board of Chancellors. He is currently a trustee of the American Board of Radiology and is a section editor for the American Journal of Roentgenology.

Dr. Mauro has received a Lifetime Service Award from the American Board of Radiology and is listed in U.S. News Top Doctors in the top 1% of his specialty.
