Mininder S. Kocher, MD, MPH is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Associate Director of the Division of Sports Medicine, Director of the Clinical Effectiveness Research Unit, and an orthopaedic surgeon Children’s Hospital Boston. He is a co-author of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, a title in the Operative Techniques series.
Dr. Kocher earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery internship and a combined orthopaedic surgery residency at Harvard University. He performed fellowships in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Children’s Hospital Boston; sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Steadman Hawkins Clinic; and clinical research, AAOS/OREF Health Services Research (and also received a master’s degree in public health) at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Internationally recognized in the field of pediatric sports medicine, Dr. Kocher has particular interests in anterior cruciate ligament injuries in skeletally immature patients, osteochondritis dissecans, articular cartilage injuries, tibial spine fractures, shoulder instability, shoulder arthroscopy, little league elbow, hip arthroscopy, hip labral tears, patellofemoral instability, meniscal injuries, and ankle instability.
Dr. Kocher is the head team physician for Babson College, Northeastern University, and the Boston Public School Sports Medicine Initiative. He is a physician for the Boston Ballet, the U.S. Ski Team, U.S.A. Track and Field, the Boston Marathon, and U.S. Figure Skating. Dr. Kocher has been elected to The Herodicus Society and The ACL Study Group, and has been recognized as one of Americas top physicians by the Consumers Research Council of America, Boston Magazine, Americas Top Doctors, U.S. News and World Report, and is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.
Dr. Kocher has performed seminal research in septic arthritis of the hip in children, the development and validation of outcome instruments, anterior cruciate ligament injuries, osteochondritis dissecans, tibial eminence fractures, discoid lateral meniscus, shoulder instability, and child abuse. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles, over 50 book chapters, and four textbooks. Dr. Kocher has presented over 300 papers at major national and international meetings and has been a visiting professor at numerous institutions nationally and internationally.
