Pedro B. Nava, PhD, MS is Associate Chair of Pathology and Human Anatomy in the Anatomy Division in the School of Medicine at Loma Linda University in California. He is also Head of Medicine in the Human Anatomy Division; Vice Chair of Pathology and Human Anatomy in the Anatomy Division; and Professor of Pathology and Human Anatomy. Dr. Nava is a co-author of the highly regarded and award-winning text, Atlas of Clinical Gross Anatomy, 2nd Edition.
Dr. Nava earned his PhD in anatomy at Loma Linda University, after which he did two years of postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Nava’s love for teaching and students has prompted him to serve several classes as class sponsor in both the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Loma Linda University. In recognition of this service, he received the Walter E. Macpherson Society Teacher of the Year award in both 1993 and 1998, and the Thomas and Violet Zapara Distinguished Undergraduate teaching award in 1997. Over the years, he has served on numerous university committees – some for as long as 30 years.
Dr. Nava’s research on diabetes and sensory systems has led to a number of publications. As chair of the division of anatomy since 1994, he has led out in the revisions of courses taught by the division in response to major changes in both the School of Medicine and Dentistry curricula.
