Peter H. R. Green, MD is Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. He is the past director of endoscopy at Presbyterian Hospital (1980 to 1996) and President of the NYSGE (1995). He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology as well as a Member of the American Gastroenterological Association and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Green is a co-author of Celiac Disease, An Issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics.
Dr. Green was born in Sydney, Australia, and received his medical degrees, from the University of Sydney. Further training in gastroenterology was performed in Sydney and at the Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, followed by a visiting fellowship in medicine at Presbyterian Hospital in New York and a position on faculty of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he has remained. Dr. Green has been on committees of the AGA and ASGE and was a member of the Clinical Teaching Project Committee of the AGA. He has been honored for his teaching and mentoring with the American Gastroenterological Association Foundation Mentors Research Scholar Award, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy presented him with its Master Endoscopist Award in 2007.
Dr. Green currently conducts research into the epidemiology, diagnosis and complications of celiac disease and related small intestinal disorders. He lectures on celiac disease at medical centers around the country and internationally and regularly talks to patient support groups.
