How has The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Cardiovascular System, Volume 8, 3rd Edition evolved since the previous edition? How has it evolved since the first edition?

The newest edition includes many of the modern cardiac imaging modalities, many of which didn’t exist when the previous edition was published.

What is the most exciting aspect of The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Cardiovascular System, Volume 8, 3rd Edition? What chapter or topic covered in the new edition are you most excited about?  

This edition features examples of imaging modalities that a modern cardiologist will need to be familiar with. We’ve also updated the chapter on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Who will find the greatest value from The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Cardiovascular System, Volume 8, 3rd Edition and why? Has the audience changed since the book was first published?

Any cardiologist who wants a textbook that combines classic Netter anatomy sketches and modern cardiovascular innovations will value this book.

What new ideas, practices, or procedures would you like to highlight for the new edition? 

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), intracardiac echocardiography (ICE), optical coherence tomography (OCT)

What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve? 

Our ultimate goal is to improve cardiovascular health and outcomes.

About the Author

My name is Jamie Beth Conti. I am Chair of the Department of Medicine at UF Health in Gainesville Florida. I graduated from Harvard University in 1982 and pursued medical training at the University of Florida, followed by an internship year at Georgetown University and residency at Emory University. I then did my general cardiology training at UF Health, followed by a year of subspecialty training in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. I joined UF Health in 2004 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. I served as Cardiology Program Training Director from 1998-2009 and the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Program Director from 2005-2008. I was Director, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology from 2005-2008. I was promoted to Full Professor with Tenure in 2007 and was asked to be Division Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine in 2009. In January 2019 I was appointed Chair of the Department of Medicine, a position I still enjoy.
