News & Articles > Q&A with Dr. Eyal Levit, author of Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology Series: Surgical Lifting, 1st Edition

Interview with Eyal Levit, MD

Why did you feel that it was important to write a book on this topic? What does Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology Series: Surgical Lifting, 1st Edition add to the field?

When we were asked to write this book for our society, we were both flattered and humbled. Once the initial excitement died down, the daunting task of convincing some of the top leaders in our field to invest their time and share their secrets and techniques, which they have acquired and honed over decades of work, became clear. Spurred forward by realizing the importance of making our specialty known and respected in this field and being constantly approached by a growing number of graduating dermatology residents and fellows eager to perform blepharoplasties and face lifts, we became convinced of this book’s importance.

We poured over many of the books in the field as we planned the direction we would take this book. Our aim in writing this book was to present, in a simple, straightforward way, utilizing text illustrations and highly interactive videos, the step-by-step approach for the evaluation, management, and execution of surgical and advanced non-surgical rejuvenation of the face and neck. As we wrote the chapters, we tried to include doctors from the fields of facial plastic, plastic, oculoplastic, and oral maxillofacial surgery. Many of the authors in this book were hand-selected from the Mount Sinai cosmetic surgery course, run by Dr. Khorasani, because of their mastery in each field and their true passion for changing and elevating medical education. We believe it is paramount that we learn from one another and help raise the standard of care for our patients. But as a dermatology-centered book, since we have so many qualified experts among us who produce remarkable results, it was important that the main authors always be from the field of dermatology. Since the book is intended for dermatological surgeons, it was important for the authors to relate to the training and knowledge dermatology residents and fellows receive and thus be better able to address the voids that cosmetic dermatological surgery may have. Our ultimate goal was to present the best there is in the field of cosmetic surgery in one book.

What is the most exciting aspect of Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology Series: Surgical Lifting, 1st Edition? What chapter or topic covered are you most excited about?

There are new and very instructive videos with side-by-side anatomical diagrams that discuss the analysis and surgical techniques while showing the anatomical drawings of the area. I have shared for the first time many yet unpublished new techniques I have developed for brow lifting, and lower lid blepharoplasty as well as techniques to reduce the visibility of the upper eyelid blepharoplasty scars.

Who will find the greatest value from this book and why?

The book is educational both for the novice looking to learn about face lifting as well as for the experienced who want to improve on their techniques and avoid complications as well as improve post procedures recovery time.

What new ideas, practices, or procedures do you hope your readers take away from Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology Series: Surgical Lifting, 1st Edition?

With the high-quality easy-to-follow videos, we hope to allow any dermatological surgeon with an interest in diving deeper into the aesthetic surgical field a chance to improve their techniques or embark on the exciting voyage of performing them.

Is there anything else about the book you’d like to say?

Our goal as dermatologic surgeons is to give our patients the most natural, long-lasting, and safe aesthetic outcomes. This book is the end product of an amazing journey of partnership and collaboration between the various cosmetic surgery-centered fields. We hope the book will help you achieve this goal. If there are any great ideas here, they are of our teachers; and if there are any errors, they are ours.
