Interview with Stephen F. Kralik MD
Why did you feel that it was important to write a book on this topic? What does Fetal, Neonatal, and Pediatric Neuroradiology, 1st Edition add to the field?
This is the first edition of our book. We hope to publish subsequent editions with updates in content as more is discovered.
What is the most exciting aspect of your new publication? What chapter or topic covered are you most excited about?
This is the first edition of our book. We are excited to have a great balance of text and imaging that covers the full spectrum of pediatric neuroradiology. In addition, we have important summaries, illustrations, and differential diagnoses pages that are important to provide the big picture on topics.
Who will find the greatest value from this book and why?
The book is written in such a way that both novice and expert radiologists will find the greatest value, however, non-radiologists including neurologists, neurosurgeons, and pediatricians will also find great value because of our succinct descriptions and excellent imaging.
What new ideas, practices, or procedures do you hope your readers take away from your text?
We have included advanced imaging in many diagnoses, illustrations to teach embryology and pathology in a straightforward fashion where needed, clinical images to add more perspective of a diagnosis, and reference data that is useful in daily practice.
What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve?
A few key areas needing improvement are the need for sedation for MRIs, improved fetal MRI techniques, integration of quantification data such as cerebral volume information, and integration of information from DTI and functional MRI that currently is still in the research phase.
Is there anything else about the book you’d like to say?
We hope this book is a valuable educational resource and it helps improve patient care in any way possible.
