Interview with Jeffrey S. Dover
How has Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Lasers, Lights, and Energy Devices book evolved since the previous edition?
This is the 5th edition of the bestselling text on Lasers, Lights, and Energy Devices. In the first edition of Lasers and Lights, there were few if any Energy Devices to write about. This has changed so dramatically over the last decade that we have changed the title to include Energy Devices in the title.
The book has been completely rewritten for the 5th edition. Readers of the 4th edition won’t recognize this new edition as a new edition but really it is a new book: 2 new editors, Jeffrey Dover and Liz Tanzi and a new video editor Leah Spring.
What is the most exciting aspect of the new edition? What chapter or topic covered are you most excited about?
Most of the book is new and it is tremendously exciting. For example, the chapters on Non-Surgical Body Contouring, RF Microneedling, ethnic Skin, and Treatment of Acne with light and energy Based Devices weren’t in prior editions.
Who will find the greatest value from Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Lasers, Lights, and Energy Devices?
The audience for the series has expanded as the specialty of Aesthetic Medicining has expanded. The book is perfectly suited to Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons, Facial Plastic Surgeons, and Oculoplastic Surgeons. Aesthetics Medicine Specialists and allied health personnel who work in the field.
What new ideas, practices, or procedures would you like to highlight for the new edition?
Non-Surgical Body Contouring, RF Microneedling, ethnic Skin, and Treatment of Acne with light and energy Based Devices
What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve?
So many it’s hard to count. Virtually every chapter discusses new targets, new problems, and new conditions we can now treat.
