Why did you feel that it was important to write Dermatology Essentials, 2nd Edition? What does your publication add to the field?
Dr. Bolognia: Presenting dermatology in a simple but sophisticated manner; provides logical framework.
Dr. Ko: Skin disease is quite common and is encountered by primary care doctors and other healthcare practitioners. This book is concise with wonderful photographs, figures, and tables that highlight important presentations, information, and treatments.
What is the most exciting aspect of Dermatology Essentials, 2nd Edition? What chapter or topic covered in the new edition are you most excited about?
Dr. Bolognia: More new photographs and appropriate updates; large collection of online figures in addition to text figures.
Dr. Ko: There are many new photographs – images can convey so much information.
Who will find the greatest value from this book and why?
Dr. Bolognia: Medical students, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, family medicine, internal medicine and emergency medicine physicians, and dermatology residents during their first year of training.
Dr. Ko: I believe any student or practitioner of dermatology can benefit from the streamlined content of this book.
What new ideas, practices, or procedures do you hope your readers take away from Dermatology Essentials, 2nd Edition?
Dr. Bolognia: More knowledge so better patient care.
Dr. Ko: I believe the richness of skin disease and the options for management and treatment are nicely outlined by the book.

Dr. Ko: How to tailor best treatments to each individual patient.

Grew up in rural western Pennsylvania; went to medical school at Yale and never left.
Christine Ko, MD Professor of Dermatology and Pathology, Yale University
Trained at UCLA for internship and UC, Irvine for dermatology residency and has been at Yale for about 15 years.
