Richard Drake, PhD is the Director of Anatomy and Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He is responsible for designing and implementing the anatomy component of the medical school curriculum in this innovative program. Prior to this appointment he was a professor and Vice Chairman in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Drake was director of the gross anatomy course and was responsible for coordinating the department’s medical education programs. He is Secretary/Treasurer of the American Association of Anatomists and is a member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. Dr. Drake served five years as a member of the USMLE Step I Test Material Development Committee for Anatomy and is a member of several international committees.
Dr. Drake has presented numerous talks on educational topics at national and international meetings and has published many peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, multi-media materials, and abstracts. Currently, Dr. Drake is Co-Editor-in-Chief of a new journal, Anatomical Sciences Education, which published its first issue in January 2008. He has authored or co-authored numerous best-selling anatomical education resources including Gray’s Basic Anatomy, Gray’s Anatomy for Students, 2nd Edition, Gray’s Anatomy for Students Flash Cards, 2nd Edition, Gray’s Atlas of Anatomy, and Dorland’s/Gray’s Pocket Atlas of Anatomy.
