Richard D. Parker, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic and a professor of surgery at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Dr. Parker is an expert of the knee, ranging from nonoperative treatment to all aspects of surgical procedures including articular cartilage, meniscus, ligament, and joint replacement. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts, numerous book chapters, and has presented his work throughout the world. He is co-author of the Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations-Musculoskeletal System Package, 2nd Edition.

Dr. Parker received his undergraduate degree at Walsh College in Canton, Ohio, his medical education at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed his orthopaedic residency at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his fellowship training with subspecialization in sports medicine through a clinical research fellowship in sports medicine, arthroscopy, knee and shoulder surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Parker obtained his CSS (Certificate of Subspecialization) in orthopaedic sports medicine in 2008 which was the first year it was available.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic in 1993, Dr. Parker acted as head of the section of sports medicine at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center. His current research focuses on clinical outcomes focusing on articular cartilage, meniscal transplantation, PCL, and the MOON (Multicenter Orthopaedic Outcomes Network) ACL registry. In addition to his busy clinical and administrative duties he also serves as the head team physician for the Cleveland Cavaliers, is currently President of the NBA Physician Society, and serves as a knee consultant to the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He lives in the Chagrin Falls area with his wife, Jana, and enjoys biking, golfing, and swimming in his free time.
