Shan R. Baker, MD is professor of the Section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, at the University of Michigan. He received his MD and ME degrees at the University of Iowa where he completed a residency in Otolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery. Previously Dr. Baker completed another residency in General Surgery, at the University of California, San Diego. He is the author of Local Flaps in Facial Reconstruction, 2nd Edition.
Nationally ranked in 24 specialties, Dr. Baker is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Baker is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons. He is past president and current senior advisor and examiner for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Baker is the author of more than 130 scholarly publications and more than 50 textbook chapters on facial plastic surgery. He has also edited five textbooks and has served on the editorial boards of numerous peer reviewed scientific journals. He is sought after as a speaker throughout the world.
