Dr. Canale on the 12th Edition of Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics:

“We have an online version of Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics, 12th Edition and a video version that we’re very happy with. Now you can read along and then watch a video of the procedure.” – S. Terry Canale, MD

Why Orthopaedics?

I was an old football player at the University of Virginia and was never really interested in anything but sports. I took a psychology course that included some research. I was fascinated with the research so I decided to try to coordinate research with my sports background. That’s how I ended up in orthopeadics, sports medicine, and pediatrics.

New in Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics, 12th Edition

There is an excellent chapter in Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics, 12th Edition on MRI, which I think has been one of the outstanding inventions during my career.  Other new areas in the text include femoro-acetabular dysplasia and new treatments for Dupuytren’s contracture. There are also excellent chapters on tumors, as well as a chapter on hip preservation, which includes reconstructive procedures for the hip and pelvis, and hip arthroscopy concerning labral tears.

New Images, New Video

We have completely redrawn every illustration in Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics, 12th Edition. Before, we used to take pictures out of journals and ask for permission to reuse them. Now, we’ve gone one step farther.  We’ve taken illustrations from journals and other media and have redrawn them so there is consistency. We also have an online version and a video version that we’re very happy with. Now you can read along and then watch a video of the procedure, which is very exciting for us.
