Vern L. Katz, MD is a clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Oregon Health Sciences University and Medical Director of Women’s Services at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Center for Genetics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine in Eugene, Oregon. He is a prenatal care and genetics specialist at Women’s Care in Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Katz is a co-author of the highly regarded Comprehensive Gynecology, 6th Edition.
Dr. Katz received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine and performed his postgraduate training at Arizona Health Sciences Center and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he remained as faculty, serving as associate chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology before his current positions in Oregon.
Dr. Katz’s research interests include the effects of maternal stress, occupation, and exercise on pregnancy and pregnancy outcome. His clinical interests include the interaction of maternal diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, with pregnancy physiology. Dr. Katz is also interested in the effects of bacterial and viral maternal disease during pregnancy.
A well-known author, Dr. Katz has published over 150 studies and articles in peer-reviewed journals, and authored chapters in more than 15 academic texts. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
