More and more, patients are choosing to explore non-surgical options, or minimally-invasive surgical options. Facial volumization is at the forefront of that type of technique, but there are many other different techniques that we do now that carry minimal downtime and have great outcomes. We need to make sure that those trends stand the test of time. It’s important to be able to provide those procedures in the context of a safe type of practice.

Successful rhinoplasty is very rewarding to both the patients and to the surgeons who strive to perfect it. Everyone is invested in making sure that patients get the best outcome.
Our goal was to create a comprehensive textbook that would appeal to both the less experienced surgeons and the grand masters of the procedure. We wanted it to be broad enough that anyone in either otolaryngology facial-plastic surgery or plastic surgery would be able to get a thorough and robust analysis of the pre-operative phase, the execution phase, and the follow-up phase associated with the procedures described in the book. The aim was to be able to demonstrate some of the tried and true techniques, while covering the latest trends that have been proven effective in the long term. It was important to us to include long term, results-oriented practices. This book reflects that goal.
I started out training in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, which gave me first-hand exposure to the intricate anatomy of the head and neck. Being able to restore a person’s ability to speak or restore their facial features or facial contours was very alluring to me. I found that carrying out procedures in the facial region was quite rewarding and drove my choice of subspecialties. I did subspecialty training in facial-plastic and reconstructive surgery at the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Now, everything I do is within the realm of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
William Numa, MD is a board-certified surgeon subspecializing in aesthetic facial plastic surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as the American Academy of Head and Neck Surgery. He completed residency training in head and neck surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, and advanced fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Tulane University and the Hedgewood Surgical Center. He lectures frequently and has published extensively in his field. He is an author of Master Techniques in Rhinoplasty.
Dr. Numa is a recipient of the Collin Karmody Resident Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in head and neck surgery. He also serves as a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American College of Surgeons, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
