April showers bring May flowers – but it also brings miserable allergy symptoms to about 40 million Americans every year! According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), 2013 may bring the worst symptoms for allergy sufferers. What can you do to escape a season of sneezing and wheezing? Be prepared for the season with these tips:
Start taking your allergy medications before the sneezing, wheezing, coughing and itchy eyes become unbearable. The ACAAI recommends starting two weeks before you typically experience symptoms. Symptoms may present like the common cold, but if you notice a pattern, it’s probably allergies. Don’t be blind-sided – seasonal allergies can start at any age, so be prepared!
Stay in the know when it comes to the pollen count. Check it daily and avoid the outdoors when the pollen count is highest – usually midday. You can get up-to-date pollen counts from the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology’s (AAAAI) National Allergy Bureau.
