Description

This is a guide to developing and improving educational programs with simulated learning environments for managing acute neurological emergencies. There are very useful figures and tables throughout.

Purpose

This is a unique book not only in its topic and focus, but also in its approach to deconstructing clinical scenarios and key management steps in patient care. The purpose is to help medical educators better understand simulation for acute neurological emergencies, and to facilitate the creation or improvement of medical educational programs with simulated environments. It is a relatively novel approach to teaching, and the book adds knowledge to the literature in simulation education. The purpose is to help medical educators better understand simulation for acute neurological emergencies, and to facilitate the creation or improvement of medical educational programs with simulated environments. Audience

The audience is medical educators interested or involved in medical training using simulation. The authors are faculty from the department of neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and are recognized authorities.

Features

The first section helps program directors and professors understand and prepare for the necessary steps required for creating or improving a simulation program for medical education. The second section, with teaching scenarios chapters, provides detailed information on common clinical situations in acute neurological care. Each scenario is deconstructed into the multiple steps in the care of the acute neurological patient. Excellent figures and tables in each chapter are examples for reinforcement of the ideas and content suggested for the teaching experience in simulated training.

Assessment

This is a great read for academic medicine neurologists who have an interest in using simulated scenarios for teaching acute neurological care.
