Ashley Haralson Vernon, MD is an associate surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the division of general and gastrointestinal surgery and an instructor in surgery at Harvard Medical School. She is the co-author, with Stanley W. Ashley, MD, of Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques.

Board certified in surgery, Dr. Vernon was named one of Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in 2012, and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Her clinical interests include laparoscopic surgery of the stomach and esophagus, the laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedure (LAP-BAND), GERD and supraesophageal reflux disease, weight loss surgery, laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repair, laparoscopic liver resection, and laparoscopic surgery of the pancreas and spleen.

Dr. Vernon earned her MD at the State University of New York, Downstate in 1995. She performed a residency in general surgery at the University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham in 2000. After completing a fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in pediatric laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Vernon went on to complete a second fellowship at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in laparoscopic surgery.
