She was a fellow in ultrasound and computed tomography at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Active in the ultrasound community, Dr. Benacerraf has directed and organized a host of postgraduate ultrasound courses including the biannual Harvard Medical School Advanced Sonography in OB/GYN Symposium that she initiated in 1991. Both of these advances have changed the way that pregnant women are currently screened for fetal Down syndrome. She was awarded the Ian Donald Gold Medal of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Joseph Holmes Pioneer award of the American Institute of Ultrasound for her contributions to the field of diagnostic ultrasound. She also received the 2008 Marie Curie Award from the Association of Women Radiologists.
