Christian de Virgilio, MD, FACS is Chair, Department of Surgery, Harbor-University of California-Los Angeles Medical Center; and Co-Chair, College of Applied Anatomy, and Professor of Surgery, UCLA School of Medicine. He is the author of Review of Surgery for ABSITE and Boards, 2nd Edition.
Dr. de Virgilio received his medical degree from UCLA and performed post-graduate work at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He is board certified in Surgery and General Vascular Surgery.
Dr. de Virgilio has received numerous teaching awards, including the Parker Palmer Courage to Teach Award from Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education; the Lucien B. Guze Golden Apple Award for Faculty Teacher of the Year, UCLA School of Medicine (9 time recipient); the National Golden Apple Teaching Award, American Medical Student Association; the Award for Excellence in Education, UCLA School of Medicine; and more. He has been named multiple times in Southern California Super Doctors, Best Doctors, and America’s Top Doctors
Dr. de Virgilio’s research includes surgical education, cardiac risk assessment, and hemodialysis access. He has authored more than 160 journal articles and book chapters, as well as two books. He has served as Recorder and Program Chairman for the Pacific Coast Surgical Association, President for the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons; Board of Governors, American College of Surgeons; and past president of both the Southern California Vascular Surgical Society and the Los Angeles Surgical Society.
