Daniel Vetrosky, PA-C, PhD is Assistant Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies in the College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He has been a PA for 28 years and has worked in urology, urgent care, pediatric and adult hematology/oncology, and in addiction medicine. He currently works part-time in urology in Pensacola, Florida. Dr. Vetrosky is a co-author of Physician Assistant: A Guide to Clinical Practice, 5th Edition.
Dr. Vetrosky did his PA training at Duke University School of Medicine, where he received a Bachelor of Health Science and Physician Assistant certificate. He received a Master of Education from Augusta State University and a PhD in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama. He became a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants in 2007.
Serving in many positions in professional organizations, Dr. Vetrosky was president of the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants. He has served a chair of the Council for Surgical and Perioperative Safety, and has been the American Academy of Physician Assistants Liaison to the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Vetrosky received the Didactic Instructor of the Year from the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, University of South Alabama in 2009, and in 2008 he received the John W. Kirkland, MD Award for “excellence in surgery; as a pioneer and leader at the forefront of the profession; as a teacher and clinician; for years of untiring dedication in shaping the professional identities of generations of surgical physician assistants.”
Dr. Vetrosky has authored many clinical articles and has spoken nationally on many topics. He has served on the AAPA Education Council and is a member of the editorial board for two journals, one for surgical PAs and the second for physician assistant/nurse practitioners.
