“The textbook, Breast Pathology, is critically evaluated by multiple authors and is the first of its kind in the United States.” – Dr. David Dabbs

What’s New in the Field of Pathology

The trends in pathology are moving towards personalized medicine, where patients are being examined not only physically but also in the molecular fashion. Along those lines, our job is to find those actionable mutations that patients have whether it be at the tissue level of immunohistachemistry, morphology, or even two-deep parallel massive sequencing. That’s really what the job of the pathologist is nowadays.

About Breast Pathology

Breast Pathology is a new reference textbook for pathologists and pathologists in training, as well as for anyone who has anything, even tangentially, to do with breast pathology and the study of medicine related to the breast. The textbook is critically evaluated by multiple authors and it really is the first book of its kind in the United States. Prior to this time, the breast pathology reference texts have been single-authored. They’ve all been great books, but they left a void. My vision for Breast Pathology was to place the best authors with the topics that needed to be covered. The authors are from all over the world — from San Diego to Germany. It’s really a global effort of experts in their field. The book meets a need for actionable targets and patient care in breast pathology within medicine.

Why Pathology?

My background is in science. I was a biology and chemistry major as an undergraduate. It was at that time that I decided that I wanted to translate my knowledge into a service — a human service — and the best venue that I saw for that was in medicine. As I progressed in my studies I felt that because of my heavy science background, pathology was the best field to carry that on.
