Gerard A. Silvestri, MD, MS is Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is a co-author of Clinical Respiratory Medicine, 4th Edition.
Dr. Silvestri received his medical degree from St. Georges University in Grenada, West Indies and his MS in Evaluative Clinical Sciences from Dartmouth College. He performed postgraduate work at Yale University School of Medicine and Dartmouth Medical School. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine.
Dr. Silvestri’s professional interests include lung cancer, interventional pulmonary medicine, outcomes research, health services research, and decision analysis. He is a North American Regent Representative for the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer and a member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians (fellow), the American Thoracic Society, and was president of the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology from 2009-2011. Dr. Silvestri serves on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals. He has given dozens of presentations both nationally and internationally, and is the author of more than 160 journal articles, abstracts, book chapters, book reviews, and invited commentaries
The recipient of numerous professional and academic honors, Dr. Silvestri has been given teaching awards, has been inducted into the AOA Medical Honor Society, and has been listed multiple consecutive years in Best Doctors in America.
