Istvan Seri, MD, PhD is Division Chief of Neonatology, Director of the Neonatology Center of Excellence and Vice Chair of Faculty Development in the Department of Pediatrics at Sidra Medical and Research Center in Qatar. He is the author of Hemodynamics and Cardiology, 3rd Edition, part of the Neonatology Questions and Controversies series.

Dr. Seri also holds a faculty appointment with Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar and was previously Professor of Pediatrics, Division Chief, USC Division of Neonatal Medicine, Keck School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Dr. Seri obtained his MD and PhD in Budapest, Hungary at Semmelweis University School of Medicine and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He completed his clinical training in pediatrics and neonatology at Semmelweis University and his basic and clinical research training in developmental physiology, and renal cellular physiology and neonatology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden and at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Seri’s interests have focused on the developmental regulation of cardiovascular and renal function, transitional hemodynamics and its clinical relevance. Dr. Seri has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications, editorials, and chapters. He has been a member or chair of several national and international scientific committees and foundations and has served on different NIH study sections. Dr. Seri has been an invited speaker at over 250 national and international meetings and postgraduate courses. For his research accomplishments and contributions, Dr. Seri has been recognized as an international leader in the field of developmental cardiovascular physiology in general and neonatal hemodynamics and neonatal shock in particular.
