James Mills Barbeau, MD, JD is Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Brown University; Director of Clinical Pathology, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Lifespan Academic Medical Center, Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He is the author of Risk Management in Blood Transfusion Medicine.

 

Dr. Barbeau received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed a residency at Emory University School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Medical Microbiology at Emory and a fellowship in Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is board certified in Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.

 

Dr. Barbeau’s clinical interests are in transfusion medicine and blood banking (including apheresis and stem cell transplantation, massive resuscitation in trauma), medical and legal aspects of biotechnology, bioethics, and human subjects research. He has written numerous papers, abstracts, and peer-reviewed publications on the topic of transfusion medicine.
