James Roberts, MD, FACEP, FAAEM is Vice-Chairman and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Senior Consultant of the Division of Medical Toxicology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is also Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Director of the Division of Toxicology at Mercy Catholic Medical Center and Director of the Institute for the Treatment of Poisonous Bites and Stings at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital. Dr. Roberts is the author of Roberts and Hedges’ Clinical Procedures in Emergency Medicine, 7th Edition.

Dr. Roberts received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and did his postgraduate work at Medical College of Pennsylvania and Bellevue Hospital/New York University. He is board certified in medical toxicology and emergency medicine and is a Certified Medical Review Officer.

Dr. Roberts is a senior advisor to the Philadelphia Poison Control Center, a medical consultant to the Philadelphia Zoo, and chairman of the editorial board of Emergency Medicine News. Dr. Roberts speaks worldwide and has been recognized for his educational activities on behalf of Cuban physicians.

The Emergency Medicine Residency Association, a branch of the American College of Emergency Physicians, has named Dr. Roberts as one of the 30 most influential physicians in the history and development of American academic emergency medicine. Dr. Roberts is a founding member of the association and was the first resident representative to the American College of Emergency Physicians.
