Jatin P. Shah, MD, MS (Surg), PhD (Hon), FACS, Hon. FRCS (Edin), Hon. FRACS, Hon. FDSRCS (Lond) is the Chief of Head and Neck Service and Elliot W. Strong Chair in Head and Neck Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Professor of Surgery, Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, New York. He is the lead author of Jatin Shah’s Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, 4th Edition.

 

Dr. Shah graduated from the Medical College of MS University in Baroda, India, and received his training in Surgical Oncology and Head and Neck Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His special interests are in the field of skull base surgery and surgery to preserve the function of the pharynx and the larynx. He has developed many new surgical procedures that enable surgeons to remove tumors from complex areas. Dr. Shah is an author of six books in the field of head and neck cancer and has published nearly 400 scientific articles. He has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” directories continuously for the past 20 years.

 

Dr. Shah is actively involved in training the next generation of head and neck cancer surgeons, and he and his colleagues have developed a surgical training program supported by the National Cancer Institute. His textbook of head and neck surgery and oncology has won several awards and has been named the “Best Book in the Specialty” in the past five years by the University of London.

 

Dr. Shah has lectured extensively and has served on the editorial boards of 12 scientific journals. He has served as president of the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society, the New York Head and Neck Society, the New York Cancer Society, and the International Academy of Oral Oncology. He is also a founding member of the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies and serves as its CEO. Over the years, he has held varied roles on the American Board of Surgery, the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, and the Advanced Training Council for Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Shah holds honorary fellowships from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of London, Edinburgh, and Australia, and honorary doctorates degrees from the University of Athens and the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.

 

He is a much sought after speaker who has delivered over 1000 scientific presentations including, 59 eponymous lectures and keynote addresses. In recognition of his outstanding contributions and world leadership in head and neck wurgery, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has established the Jatin Shah Chair in Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies has established the Jatin Shah Lecture at its world congresses, and the American Head and Neck Society has established the Jatin Shah Symposium at its annual meeting.
