Jess Mandel, MD is Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He is a co-author of Principles of Pulmonary Medicine, 7th Edition and Pulmonary Vascular Disease.
Dr. Mandel earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School in 1997 and moved to the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine in 2001, where he served as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Curriculum and directed Iowa’s Pulmonary Hypertension Program.
Dr. Mandel has an extensive background in medical student counseling, mentoring, and both preclinical and clinical teaching. His clinical interests include hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia and critical care; his research interests include pulmonary vascular disease and medical education.
