John Anastasi, MD is the director of the Clinical Hematology Laboratory and the Section of Hematopathology at the University of Chicago where he is an Associate Professor of Pathology. He has worked in hematopathology for over 25 years focusing on the pathologic diagnosis of blood, bone marrow and lymphoid disorders. Dr. Anastasi did his undergraduate training at Brown University, medical studies at the University of Massachusetts, and postgraduate training in medicine, pathology and hematopathology at George Washington University, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. He has authored over 100 articles, reviews, and book chapters and is an author of Hematology: Basic Principles and Practice, 6th Edition.
Dr. Anastasi first worked on Hematology for the 5th edition where he contributed updated photomicrographs of many of the benign and malignant hematologic diseases. He has continued this in the 6th edition where he attempts with his illustrations to remind the student of hematology, that even in the age of molecular medicine, most hematologic diseases are first recognized clinically and at the microscopic level.
