Matthew Zarka, MD is a highly respected cytopathologist at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona where he specializes in pathology, anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. He is Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and author of Practical Cytopathology: A Diagnostic Approach.
Dr. Zarka earned his MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in pathology and a fellowship at University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified in pathology. Beyond his more than 25 years in the field, Dr. Zarka is acknowledged for his extensive work in disadvantaged regions. He advocates for pathology programs in the developing world and is a member of the World Health Organization’s Technical Advisory Group on Comprehensive Cervical Cancer Control. Dr. Zarka has served as executive board member of the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology and as medical director of Grounds for Health, a nonprofit organization. He has been acknowledged for his work with an Olympus America Unsung Heroes Award.
