Michael P. Federle, MD, FACR is Professor and Associate Chair for Education, Department of Radiology, Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California. He is a co-author of Imaging in Gastroenterology, Diagnostic Imaging: Gastrointestinal, ExpertDDx: Abdomen And Pelvis, Imaging In Abdominal Surgery, and Imaging Anatomy: Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis.
Dr. Federle earned his medical degree from Georgetown University. He trained in Internal Medicine and Radiology at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and performed an abdominal imaging fellowship at the University of California-San Francisco. Before joining Stanford, he was Chairman and Chief of Abdominal Imaging at the University of Pittsburgh and Chief of Radiology at San Francisco General Hospital.
Dr. Federle is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2010 Cannon Medal for Lifetime Achievement from the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists, the Gold Medallion of the Pennsylvania Radiological Society, and Teacher of the Year at Stanford, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of California, San Francisco. A Michael P. Federle Mentorship Award is given in his name annually at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
His focus in clinical research and teaching is abdominal imaging with a particular emphasis in CT scanning. Dr. Federle has authored more than 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as hundreds of book chapters. In addition, he has been the main editor and/or author of more than 20 textbooks of radiology.
