Trish Perl-DeLisle, MD is Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases, Jay P. Sanford Professorship in Infectious Diseases, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She is the author of Preparing for Viral Outbreaks and Bioterrorism.

 

Dr. Perl-DeLisle earned her medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, did her residency at Royal Victoria Hospital at McGill University in Montreal, and performed a fellowship in clinical epidemiology and infectious diseases at the University of Iowa. She also worked for two years with the Canadian equivalent of the Epidemic Intelligence Service, and her first outbreak investigation – an encephalopathy caused by eating mussels – was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

 

Dr. Perl-DeLisle specializes in health care-associated infections, antimicrobial-resistant organisms, emerging pathogens, and infection prevention. She previously served for 20 years on the faculty of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, which was one of the first Centers of Excellence for health care-associated infections. Her research interests include antimicrobial resistance, C. difficile, healthcare associated infections, infection prevention and control, resistant gram negative infections, S. aureus infections, and surgical site infections. She has authored or co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, and has written multiple chapters and contributed to guidelines and policies relevant to healthcare-associated infections at the institutional, state, and federal levels. She consults with international governments on guideline development and strategies to prevent healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance.
