Anthony J. Frew, MD, FRCP, is Professor of Allergy and Respiratory Medicine in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Brighton General Hospital in Brighton, UK. He is a co-author of Clinical Immunology, 4th Edition.
Dr. Frew trained in Cambridge, London, Nottingham, Oxford, and Stoke-on-Trent. He developed an interest in allergy while working with Professor Barry Kay at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London (allergy and clinical immunology) and undertook post-doctoral research in Vancouver, Canada (occupational allergy and asthma). After 13 years in Southampton, he moved to Brighton to set up a new department.
Dr. Frew has an active clinical practice in acute general internal medicine, respiratory medicine, and clinical allergy. He has served for many years on the executive committee of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, including service as secretary-general and president. He has served on the Professional Education and International Committees of The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and is treasurer for his national society (The British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology). Dr. Frew serves as a member of the scientific advisory board of Allergy Therapeutics, associate editor of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, chairman of the Europe and CIS region committee of the International Council of the AAAAI, and as a member of the British Thoracic Society Asthma Guidelines Group.
Dr. Frew’s research interests include clinical trials of immunotherapy and anti-asthma drugs; health effects of air pollution; and practical aspects of developing allergy services in primary care. Dr. Frew has authored over 200 papers in the peer-reviewed literature.
