Barbara A. Konkle, MD is Director of Clinical and Translational Research and Medical Director of the Hemostasis Reference Laboratory at the Puget Sound Blood Center; and Professor of Medicine/Hematology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. She is co-author of Consultative Hemostasis and Thrombosis, 3rd Edition.

Dr. Konkle received her medical degree from Vanderbilt University, after which she did her postgraduate work at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s in Chicago, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Ann Arbor. She was previously Professor of Medicine and of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and directed hemophilia care programs at Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Konkle is a founding board member of the Foundation for Women and Girls with Bleeding Disorders, and she is currently chair of the board of directors for the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network.

Nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in the laboratory evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with bleeding and clotting disorders, Dr. Konkle is interested in hemostasis clinical test development and use of hemostasis testing to support innovative clinical research. Her laboratory is focused on improving health by better diagnosis and treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders, and her recent research relates to improved testing for von Willebrand disease (VWD) and blood-clotting in pregnancy and other disorders, and cardiovascular disease in men with hemophilia.
