James E. Fitzpatrick, MD is Professor of Dermatology and Pathology in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Aurora, Colorado.  He is the author of Dermatology Secrets Plus, 5th Edition and Urgent Care Dermatology: Symptom-Based Diagnosis.

Dr. Fitzpatrick received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas, after which he completed his dermatology residency training at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center and his dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Colorado. He is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology.

Dr. Fitzpatrick served as the dermatology residency director and Chief of Dermatology at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center before leaving the military and taking a position in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He currently serves as Co-Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship.

Dr. Fitzpatrick has edited or authored several textbooks, as well as dozens of chapters and papers. His current research interests include bullous pemphigoid, eosinophil-mediated inflammatory skin disorders, extramammary Paget’s disease, melanocytic tumors, and Merkel cell carcinoma.
