John E. Bennett, MD, is Director of the Infectious Diseases Training Program at the National Institutes of Health and former President of Infectious Disease Society of the Americas (IDSA). He is also Chief of the Clinical Mycology Section in the NIAID. In addition to publishing extensively in journals and leading textbooks in his field, he has served on the editorial boards of several journals, and is an editor of the 7th edition of Mandell, Douglas, and Bennett’s Principles & Practice of Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Bennett has a primary research interest in basic and clinical mycology, and has been active in this field of research for more than four decades. In recognition of his contributions to the field, the John E. Bennett Forum on Deep Mycoses Study Design was convened in 2002. This annual meeting focuses on key issues of clinical trial design.
