Kim S. Suvarna, MBBS, BSc, FRCP, FRCPath, Department of Pathology, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, UK. He is a co-author of Bancroft’s Theory and Practice of Histological Techniques, 8th Edition.
Dr. Suvarna is a graduate of the University of London and Middlesex Hospital Medical School. He specializes in cardiothoracic and autopsy pathology, with particular interests in the pathology of sudden death, maternal deaths, complex medical disease, cardiomyopathy, medico-legal cases, and industrial lung disease, including asbestos, coal, silica, and metal-related lung disease.
He is an experienced teacher and has worked as Educational Supervisor, Program Director and Head of School for Pathology Trainees within the Yorkshire and Humber region. He is a member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons and is an examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists.
Dr. Suvarna’s current work is in the daily surgical histopathology of the cases at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals with specialist reporting of cardiovascular and thoracic pathology. He is a senior pathologist for the thoracic cancer group across the city and acts as a tertiary referral point for all complex cardiothoracic disease within the region. He also provides support diagnostic work for nephrology biopsies and endocrine disease. Dr. Suvarna is a mentor for medical school students in Sheffield, and has been an interviewer for medical school entry. He has authored several books and more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles.
